Tips To Maximize Fuel Economy

gas pump

With gas prices higher than they’ve been in years, it is important to try to maximize your fuel economy.  Here are some of the best tips to help you do this and save money at the pump.

1) Keep Up on Regular Maintenance

A vehicle that is well maintained will consistently get better gas mileage.  In fact, a dirty air filter can reduce fuel economy by as much as 20 percent.  Old spark plugs can also reduce fuel economy by as much as 12 percent.  A mechanic will check all of these and more during routine maintenance to make sure they are in top condition.

2) Check Tire Pressure

Having tires that are not fully inflated can reduce fuel economy by as much as 25 percent.   Low tire pressure can severely reduce fuel economy and should be checked every few months.  This will make a significant difference in your gas mileage.

3) Get Rid of Junk

It is estimated that for every extra 250 pounds of weight in your vehicle, fuel economy will be reduced by one mile per gallon.  If you consistently haul around excess things in your car, consider taking some of it out.  It will greatly increase your fuel economy.

4) Reduce Your Speed

The faster you drive, the more gas you will use.  Highway driving provides better fuel economy, but only to a point.  For most vehicles, driving over 75 mph or with a tachometer reading above 2500 rpm will provide diminished results.

Following these tips will help you save money every time you have to get gas.  Each of these tips is easy to implement and will have a big impact on your fuel economy.

6 Tips On Saving Money At The Gas Pump

gas pumpGas prices are on the rise.

We all know that the cars of today are getting better gas mileage.  However with rising prices, you’ll probably be looking for ways to save at the pump.

Following these tips will help you save money next time you fill up at the pump.

1. Fill It Up: Your car gets better gas mileage if it has a full tank of gas.  That’s because there’s less air in the gas tank to cause evaporation.

2. Slow Down: Drive the speed limit.  You’ll save on gas.  Once you get to 60 miles per hour, every 10 mph over that speed is giving up at least 54 cents per gallon.

3. Keep It Hot: Your car gets better gas mileage when the A/C is not running.  Roll down the windows and park in the shade.

4. Watch Weight: Keep an eye on how much cargo your hauling.  If you have a truck, don’t haul unnecessary items in the truck bed.  It hurts gas mileage.

5. Check The Tires: Make sure you’ve got the proper air pressure in your tires.  You can save up to 12 cents a gallon.

6. Use The Right Oil Grade: Use the recommended oil grade for your car or truck.  It can save you anywhere from 4 to 8 cents a gallon.

Following these tips will help you save money at the pump.  How do you save at the pump?  Leave your comments below.

8 Easy Ways You Can Save Money on Gasoline.

The cost of driving to work, running errands, and just using your car does not have to be as high. These tips on saving gas may help you reduce your driving costs significantly.

  1. Make sure your car is maintained and tuned correctly and regularly with a Santa Fe car tune up. Cars that are not tuned properly can use up to 25% more gas!
  2. Unless you have a high performance engine, your car absolutely requires it, or your auto manufacturer recommends high octane gas, do not use it. You can save a significant amount of money by using a lower octane gas and your car will run just as well.
  3. Check tire pressure often. For every pound your tires are underinflated, you lose up to 6% on your gas mileage. This is just with one pound, so as that number creeps up, so does the amount of gas you will use. Have this checked at your Las Cruces car tune up.
  4. When it is warm out, gas expands and can overflow if you topped off your tank.  When the pump stops pumping gas, you should not force any extra in.
  5. Accelerate gently.
  6. Avoid stopping when possible. Coming to a complete stop and then speeding back up uses far more gas than driving at a steady pace for a longer amount of time.
  7. Maintain a steady speed. Speeding up uses more gas and slowing down and then speeding back up also increases the amount of gas you use.
  8. Follow the speed limit. Driving too fast or slow can cause you to use up to 30% more gas than is necessary.

Follow these tips and start using less gas. You will save money and time by not having to visit the gas stations as frequently.

Five Ways to Get Better Gas Mileage from Any Vehicle

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Learn how to get the best gas mileage no matter what kind of vehicle you have.

1. Carry Less Weight – The more you carry, the more you are weighing down your vehicle. The added weight takes extra gas to move your car while driving. Take some time and clean out your vehicle, removing unnecessary materials that are not needed.

2. Maintain the Correct Tire Pressure – Check your tire pressure often and keep it at the recommended PSI. You can find the PSI on the tire or on the inside of your door, where the SIN number is located. You can pick up a tire gauge at any local automotive parts store for a low price.

3. Keep Your Car in Good Condition – When the time comes for maintenance work to be performed on your vehicle, do not wait. Take your vehicle in and get a quality auto tune up. Maintenance as simple as changing an air filter or performing an engine flush can greatly increase your gas mileage. If your vehicle is in good condition, it should maximize its gas mileage.

4. Watch Your Speed – You do not need to push the pedal to the metal. The more you push on the gas, the more gas you use. It is additionally not a good practice on your vehicle as well. Increasing your speed gradually is the best way to increase your gas mileage.

5. Don’t Idle – This one may be a bit obvious but if you drive less, you lose less gas. Try running all your errands at one time to avoid unnecessary ware on your vehicle and wasting gas.
